Cybearcat has a new job. He was purchased by the Cavern Club as part of the UC Alumni Association auction on October 19, 2002. He'll be displayed on the UC Campus during the Homecoming festivities on October 26, but after that he'll be on his way to his new life at 1120 Walnut Street.

Video from Cybearcat won't be available here since he's on the move.

Cybearcat is made of fiberglass and stands about four feet tall. He's perched on a wood frame base covered in articifial turf. He's painted with a combination of enamel and acrylic paint. Accessories are made of foam core or polymer modeling clay.

Cybearcat's eyes are twin Orange Micro iBot2 cameras utilizing USB2 to communicate with the CPU. The cameras provide dual uncompressed digital video streams that are then compressed using the Windows Media Encoder.

Dell Computer generously donated a slim profile Optiplex GX260 computer with a 15-inch LCD display to serve as the encoder hardware (the brains of Cybearcat). The computer features a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, 1 GB of memory, a 40 GB hard drive, and a gigabit Ethernet adapter. UCit is grateful to Mitch Breneman and Meghan Goertz of Dell's Higher Education Sales unit for their support.

Artists Leslie and Bevin Blankenbuehler worked with fiberglass, wood, foam core, and paint to breathe life into an idea that originated with Tom Streeter. Tom and Bevin work together in the UCit Educational IT Services Streaming Media Project. Leslie is an artist and student living near Columbus, OH (and is Bevin's mother).
